3 upraising members among 12 killed in Faryab
MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Three uprising group members and nine militants have been killed during clashes in northwestern Faryab province, officials said on Monday.
Police Chief, Brig. Gen. Abdul Nabi Alham, told Pajhwok Afghan News Taliban attacked several security posts in Ghormach, Almar, Pashtonkot, and Khowaja Sabzposh districts of the province late on Sunday night.
He said nine militants and three uprising group members were killed and five uprising members and five insurgents wounded during clashes in Khowaja Sabzposh district.
Two other militants wounded during the clash with security forces in Almar district.
Ahmad Fayaz, one of the uprising group commanders said that hundreds of Taliban militants equipped with mortar, rocket, machine guns and other heavy weapons stormed the Khowaja Sabzposh district yesterday night.
He said the clashes continued until 3am and the Taliban were retreated after reinforcements arrived.
He said that seven rebels were killed and three uprising members and five civilians wounded during the fight.
Upraising members and civilians were wounded as result of a rocket strike fired by Taliban militants, he added.
Fayaz asked the officials concern to equip upraising groups otherwise they would not resist against militants.
