Dostum security guards’ convoy attacked in Jawzjan
SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Taliban and security officials claimed inflicting causalities on each other after Vice-President Gen. Abdur Rashid’s security guards were attacked on the Shiberghan-Khwaja Dokoh road in northern Jawzjan province.
A firefight erupted after the insurgents assaulted the convoy of Dostum’s guards on its way to Shiberghan, the provincial capital, from Khwaja Dokoh district, said police chief, Brig. Gen. Rahmatullah Turkistani.
He added security personnel, in coordination with Dostum’s bodyguards, chased the Taliban into Dasht-i-Laili area, where rebel commander Ghausuddin -- known as Sadaqat -- was killed and another insurgent wounded.
Turkistani said security forces suffered no casualties in the overnight attack.
But Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed killing Gen. Abdul Sattar, commander of Gen. Dostum’s security gourds, and other officials in the ambush.
But Sattar, in a telephonic conversation, told Pajhwok Afghan News he and his colleagues came under Taliban attack in the Rahmatabad area. They had a brief firefight with the assailants, he said.
Sattar said his colleagues and he escaped unhurt in the incident. Along with security forces, the guards chased the attackers into Majid Qoduq locality.
