3 border guards killed, 9 injured in Spin Boldak clashes
KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Three border policemen have been killed and nine others wounded in a clash with militants near the Pakistan border in southern Kandahar province, an official said on Wednesday.
The gunbattle erupted when a group of militants attacked security posts at the Zero Point of Durand Line in SraSahano area between Spin Boldak and Shorabak district.
Samim Khpalwak, the governor’s spokesman, confirmed three border policemen were killed and nine others wounded. Taliban insurgents also suffered casualties during the gunbattle, he added.
Khpalwak alleged most of the militants came from the other side of Durand Line to launch attacks on security check-posts in Kandahar before returning to their safe havens across the border.
Meanwhile, the Taliban claimed that security personnel suffered causalities as the fighters captured one post and a security headquarters in the area.Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, the group’s spokesman, said many policemen were killed during the gun battle.
The bodies 10 policemen including a commander were still lying at the scene, he said, adding the attackers captured two posts and 14 weapons. But security officials rejected the claim.
