69 insurgents eliminated in fresh operations: MoD
KABUL (Pajhwok): Sixty-nine armed insurgents were killed and two others arrested in clearing by security forces in different provinces over the past 24 hours, the Ministry of National Defence (MoD) said on Friday.
Backed by artillery and Afghan Air Force, the offensives were conducted in Nangarhar, Ghazni, Paktia, Paktika, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Zabul, Ghor, Herat, Takhar, Kunduz, Jawzjan and Helmand provinces.
A statement from the ministry said the fatalities included 11 Daesh militants. Five fighters of the group were wounded and two others arrested by the security forces.
During a raid in the Nirkh district of Maidan Wardak province, 11 armed opponents of the government were killed. Eleven suicide jackets and 180 kilograms of explosives were recovered.
In the same province, six rebels were killed by the mortar shell they wanted to fire into Syedabad district, MoD said, adding 13 insurgents were killed and 21 wounded in Badakhshan.
Separately, police and ANA soldiers killed 11 Taliban and injured 13 others in the Dasht-i-Archi district of Kunduz province. Four bases of the militants were also destroyed,
In the Shinkai district of Zabul province, one fighter was killed and two others were wounded. At least four security personnel were also killed during the operations.
