Fighting yet again deprives Faryab’s capital, 4 districts of electricity
MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Power supply to the capital and four other districts of northern Faryab province was cut off once again during a clash between security forces and militants on Sunday, , officials said.
Abdul Karim Yorsh, police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News Taliban insurgents attacked security check posts on the Sherin Tagab-Dawlatabad highway and bullets fired by the rebels cut loose an electricity line, disconnecting power to the provincial capital and four districts.
Sayed Abdul Hamid, Faryab electricity department head, said the power line had been cut off in Faizabad desert of Sherin Tagab district and the fighting was ongoing.
“Maimana city and Pashtunkot, Khwaja Sabzposh, Sherin Tagab and Dawlatabad districts will not have electricity tonight,” he said.
Yorsh said more than 53,000 families used the electricity imported from Turkmenistan to Maimana and the four districts.
A security official said Taliban and sometimes pro-government forces (public uprising forces) used to damage the power lines deliberately. He said so far at least 10 times the cables had been cut off.
