BD pull off sensational win over Afghans in 1st ODI
Magnificent slog-overs bowling from Shakib Al Hasan, Taskin Ahmed and Rubel Hossain, who captured seven wickets among them, helped Bangladesh win Sunday’s thriller.
As Bangladesh set up a 266-run target, Afghanistan launched a gritty chase, with Hashmatullah smashing 72 and Rahmat Shah 71, ACB spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News.
However, pacer Taskin Ahmed bagged four wickets in his international cricket comeback, keeping the visitors at bay. Shakib Al Hasan, who claimed two scalps and helped his side to restrict the opposition to 258 runs.
Afghanistan, losing the last six wickets for 28 runs, needed 13 runs from the final over, but they could manage only five. Earlier, the visitors were cruising at 190 for two, Hotak said.
For the hosts, Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah hit half centuries after Dawlat Zadran dislodged Soumya Sarkar for a duck in the first over. Tamim top-scored with 80, becoming the first Bangladeshi cricketer to score 9,000 runs in international cricket.
Mahmudullah chipped in with 62, hitting Zadran ruthlessly for 16 runs in one over. Zadran took four wickets for 73, while Nabi and spinner Rashid Khan grabbed two each.
