New polio case surfaces in Paktika’s Barmal district
SHARAN (Pajhwok): A special polio eradication campaign has been launched in southeastern Paktika province after a fresh positive case surfaced in Barmal district, an official said on Monday.
Gulab Khan, a local public health official, told Pajhwok Afghan News on the occasion of launching the polio campaign, identified the victim as 18-month-old Anwar.
He said no polio vaccination had been conducted in the province over the past 18 months.
Dr. Mohammad Azem, in charge of the polio vaccination, confirmed the fresh case and said the affected child had recently returned from Pakistan.
Syed Noor, a resident of Barmal district, said: “Earlier, only polio vaccine would be administered to children in the provincial capital and few areas, but now different kinds of vaccines are given to children in the province.”
Governor Ilyas Wahdat asked people to ensure that their children were administered polio drops so that they could have a healthy and bright future.
