20,000 foreign tourists visit Afghanistan annually
Haroon Hakimi, the ministry spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News on the World Tourism Day that despite insecurity in some provinces, foreigner tourists used to visit various parts of the country.
“Afghanistan has the most attractive tourist spots and over the recent years, the number of tourists has increased. Currently up to 20,000 foreign tourists annually come to Afghanistan.”
According Hakimi, the increased number of foreign tourists has resulted in millions of afghanis income for local people of different parts and 20 million afs of the income goes to the government.
The tourists visit Kabul, Bamyan, Herat, Balkh, Samangan, Kandahar, Ghazni, Nangarhar, Parwan, Ghor and some other areas. At least 100,000 local people also visit other provinces for leisure on yearly basis.
Hakimi said training of professional cadres in sphere of tourism would be launched soon by the tourism institute of Kabul.
To provide better services to tourists, their visas could also be extended inside Afghanistan through a process, he said.
Afghanistan has assistant position at the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)’s Commission for South Asia and wants to avail the chance strengthening tourism in Afghanistan with support from other international organizations concerned.
According to the Ministry of Information and Culture, currently 999 tourism companies and 120 standard hotels are active in various parts of the country.
