Rebel commander among 8 killed in Badakhshan clash
FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): At least 17 militants have suffered casualties during a counterattack from security personnel in the Juram district of northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said on Tuesday.
Maj. Massoud Arshad, provincial police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Taliban launched an attack on security posts in the district on Monday evening. The clash continued till 3am.
He said Mullah Hafizullah, a Taliban commander, was among eight militants killed. Nine other fighters were wounded in a retaliatory attack by Afghan forces, he added
The bodies of five rebels were still lying at the scene. An Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier was also wounded in the firefight. Arshad said the security situation was stable in the area.
This is the second attack on Juram district within a week. Local officials said 15 rebels were killed and five others detained as a result of the first attack.
