Ghani wants Afghanistan converted into major exporter
KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday assured the private sector of continued cooperation from his administration, saying the notion that wealth is amassed through loot and plunder.
Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony for six new factories of the Alokozay Groups of Companies in Kabul, he said the national unity government had been trying to make Afghanistan an independent, developed and self-sufficient.
He praised the Alokozay Groups of Companies and other investors, saying the aim of the government was to convert Afghanistan into a major exporter.“Our thinking that getting wealthy is the result of theft and the government prevents generation of assets is wrong. This mindset should be changed.”
Ghani said the world’s biggest companies like Google and Microsoft were the outcome of positive mindsets. The people of Afghanistan should fundamentally change their attitude, the president stressed.
Most of Afghans having been sufferingdue to poverty as 40 percent of them have a daily income of less than a hundred afghanis (less than $2), he said, adding poverty would not go away until effective steps towards boosting the economywere taken.
He asked private sectorleaders to present their plans and investment strategies, saying the government was fully supporting them and remained committed to resolving their problems.
The Alokozay Groups factories, involving an investment of more than $300 million, will produce food items, packages, printingand tissue papers.
