KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Bangladesh trounced Afghanistaninfo-icon by 141 runs in the third one-day international (ODI) to wrap up the three-match series 2-1 at the Sher-i-Bangal Stadium in Dhaka on, a board official said on Sunday.

The hosts, electing to bat first, piled up 279 runs fpr the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 50 overs, thanls to a magnificient century by opener Tamim Iqbal who scored a run a ball in the Saturday’s decider.

In reply, Afghanistan were skittld out for 138, as Mosharraf Hossain struck twice to derail the visitors’ chase, Afghan Cricket Board spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News.

In what looked a dream comeback after eight years in the wilderness, Hossain finished with three wickets and pacemanTaskin Ahmed grabbed two. For the hosts, it was the sixth consecutive series victory in limited overs matches.

Capitalising on a dropped catch early in his innings, Tamim gave Bangladesh the boost they needed. Despite a middle-order collapse, they rattled up 279, the board spokesman said. The catch was floored by skipper Asghar Stanikzai.

Mohammad Shahzad departed the third over before Nawroz Mangal and Rahmat Shah put on 47 runs for the second wicket. Mangal tended to be aggressive, while Rahmat remained cautious.

As Mosharraf dismissed Mangal for 33, Afghanistan lost their way. Hashmatullah Shahidi was sent back to the pavillion for a duck, Stanikzai was run out by Shakib al Hasan for 1.

Taskin Ahmed accounted for the dismissal of Samiullah Shenwari (13) and Rahmat Shah (36) in successive overs before Mohammad Nabi fell. Najibullah Zadran (26) and Rashid Khan (17) produced 43 runs for the eighth wicket but they only delayed the inevitable loss.
