Pakistan softens visa restrictions for Afghan truckers
PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan has eased visa restrictions for Afghan truckers, allowing them entry after two rounds of negotiations between officials from the two countries in the Torkham border town.
Afghan drivers without valid travel documents were initially denied entry into Pakistan on Saturday after a deadline expired on September 30. But two rounds of talks led to the relaxation of the tight controls.
Hundreds of trucks stranded on both sides were allowed to cross the Durand Line and travel to their respective destinations as a result of successful negotiations, a political administration official said.
Representatives of Afghan and Pakistani transporters told the officials they were not ready to accept the visa condition for drivers. Border authorities subsequently relaxed the checks.
