2 civilians dead in Logar blast, 6 injured in Takhar raid

Oct 03, 2016 - 14:18

TALOQAN/PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Two civilians have been killed in a bomb explosion in central Logar province while six people were injured in Afghan forces’ attack on a mosqueinfo-icon in northern Takhar province, officials said on Monday.

Takhar security officials claimed the people wounded in the mosque raid in Yangi Kala district were Talibaninfo-icon militants but local residents alleged they were innocent civilians.

Provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Noor Mohammad Hakimi, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Afghan forces came under Taliban ambush in the Zara Shar area of the district on Sunday evening.

He said two militants were injured in the retaliatory attack. Two motorcycles belonging to the Taliban were also seized by security forces, the police boss added.

Meanwhile, a statement from the 808th Spinzar Military Zone said that two rebels were killed and two Taliban commanders wounded in the clash.

However, Zara Shar inhabitant Raz Mohammad said Afghan forces attacked the Taliban who had entered the mosque. “A tank of Afghan forces came and opened fire on the mosque and shattered all its glasses.”

The resident said three children, a prayer leader and two worshippers were injured in the incident, which Takhar police chief said was being investigated.

According to another report, two civilians were killed in a bomb blast in the Charkh district of central Logar province. The governor’s spokesman said the two civilians were transporting vegetables to the bazaar in a Mazda truck.

Both were killed when the vehicle struck a roadside bomb planted by Taliban militants, Salim Saleh added. The Taliban have not yet commented on the incidents.
