CSJWG welcomes resumption of selection body work
KABUL (Pajhwok): The Civil Society Joint Working Group (CSJWG) on Monday welcomed resumption of work by the selection committee, a body tasked with nominating members of the two electoral commissions.
Khalil Raufi, member of the group, demanded of the government and other political forces not to interfere in affairs of the selection committee.
He said members of the committee should continue their job with complete independence, ensure transparency in applicants’ evaluation and introduce a proper mechanism for selection of new commissioners.
Abdullah Ahmadi, another member of the group, said the inclusion of three civil society members in the selection committee restored public trust to some extent in transparency and neutrality in the committee’s work.
According to Ahmadi, the civil society joint group was a biggest platform for decision-making and other issues on behalf of civil society organizations in the country.
