Militants kill 6 people in Jawzjan
SHEBIRGHAN (Pajhwok): At least six people have been killed by Taliban militants in Darzab district of northwestern Jawzjan province, officials said Thursday.
Provincial police chief, Rahmatullah Turkistani, told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place in Aqsai village of Darzab district on Wednesday night.
The Taliban accused the victim civilians of serving in Afghan Local Police (ALP) ranks, he said.
The killed civilians belonged to the displaced families came from Garziwan and Balcheragh districts of Faryab province he said adding, they had no any links with the ALP forces.
“The civilians were carrying weapons for their personal protection, the Taliban stopped them and asked to surrender their weapons, but some of them refused to do so and faced with Taliban’s armed response,” he said.
Turkistani said the six men were killed and their motorcycles and weapons were seized by Taliban.
Darzab district chief, Rahmatullah Hashar said the main reason of the incident was that some of the armed men few days ago joined with ALP forces.
He said security would worsen if the officials concern did not take necessary action for controlling the situation.
However, a Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid claimed killing 12 ALP personnel and seizing their seven motorcycles in Aqsai village of Darzab district.
