34 Daesh insurgents killed in Nangarhar airstrike
JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At least 34 Islamic State (IS) -- or Daesh --militants have been killed during airstrikes in Haska Mina and Nazyan districts of eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Sunday.
The governor’s spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News 31 Daesh rebels were eliminated during foreign forces’ airstrikes in the Haroon Baba area of Haska Mina and three others in Barakhel locality of Nazyan.
Attaullah Khogyani said an operation -- codenamed Shafaq Selab -- had been underway in Achin, Haska Mina, Nazyan and Kot districts for the past three days.
Nangarhar officials often claim inflicting heavy casualties on Daesh rebels, but the assertions cannot be verified independently. They say around 200 Daesh fighters have been killed only in the past week.
