20 Daesh, Taliban members killed in Nangarhar strikes
JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At least 20 Daesh and Taliban militants have been killed in drone strikes in Nazyan and Achin districts of eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Monday.
Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the rebels were killed during an ongoing offensive codenamed Shafaq Selab in the past 24 hours.
He said a dozen Taliban fighters were killed during a drone strike in the Bandar area of Nazyan late on Sunday.
A provincial council member, Ashab Wali Muslim, said he had received a report about the killing of 70 Daesh rebels in the past four days.
Malak Sohail, a tribal elder from Nazyan district, said that he was unaware about the militant fatalities.
“If such a large number of Daesh fighters are killed on a daily basis, then how do they still exist? The government should give a clarification about it,” he said.
Nangarhar officials frequently claim inflicting heavy casualties on Daesh, but a confirmation from independent sources is difficult as access to the border area is restricted.
