Danish sees no impediment to electoral reforms

Danish sees no impediment to electoral reforms

Oct 12, 2016 - 15:31

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Second Vice President Sarwar Danish on Wednesday said differences over election reforms had been resolved and an initial list of commissioners would be presented to President Ashraf Ghani in three weeks.

Addressing an Ashurainfo-icon gathering here, he acknowledged the electoral reform process faced ups and downs in the last one and half year. He said the deadlock \between the parliament and government on the issue had been resolved.

Danish said the selection committee was working hard and the primary list of individuals from which possible new commissioners would be selected may land at Presidential Palace in three weeks.

Besides the selection of new commissioners the presidents would create some groups who would look after the election reforms issues and place top priorities of the process.

Regarding the reform agenda, he said cleaning up different sectors and elimination of administrative corruption was the priority of Ghani-led administration.

“The unity government has taken tangible steps against corruption and the creation of High Council of Rule of Law is being considered by the president,” said Danish.

He said strengthening national unity, protection of national interest and constitutional values, ensuring social justice and peace and stability in the country were the main goals of the unity government.
