KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Two Americans were killed and another three were wounded when a gunman in Afghan military uniform opened fire at a base in Kabul, the NATOinfo-icon-led coalition said on Wednesday.

One US service member and one US civilian were killed and one US service member and two US civilians sustained wounds in the latest green-on-blue attack, the alliance said in a statement. The wounded were in stable condition.

"Anytime we lose a member of our team, it is deeply painful" said General John W. Nicholson, Commander of US Forces-Afghanistaninfo-icon and Resolute Support.

"Our sympathies go out to the families, loved ones, and the units of those involved in this incident. To those who continue to target Coalition forces, ANDSF, and Afghan civilians, RS and USFOR-A will continue to pursue our Train, Advise, and Assist mission to help our partners create a better Afghanistan."

The attack involving an unknown assailant took place near a coalition base. The attacker was later killed, the statement said.

The victims were conducting duties as part of the larger NATO mission to Train, Advise, and Assist the Afghan security services.  An investigation is being conducted to determine the exact circumstances of the event.
