Selection panel submits final list to president

KABUL (Pajhwok): The selection committee on Wednesday handed over a final list of shortlisted commissioners-designate on the two electoral bodies to the Presidential Palace.

A statement from the Presidential Palace said the five-member committee called on President Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday afternoon at the Palace.

The panel presented the final list to the president. The committee is composed of a representative from civil society, a representative from the Supreme Court High Council, a representative from the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission, a member from the Oversight Commission for Implementation of the Constitution and another member from the Administrative Reform and Civil Services Commission.

The meeting at the Presidential Palace was also attended by Mohammad Sarwar Danish, 2nd vice president, CEO Abdullah Abdullah, Attorney General Farid Hamidi and Tadamychy Yamamoto, the UN special envoy for Afghanistan.

The statement said President Ghani thanked the panel for observing “accuracy and transparency” in finalizing the list of applicants.  

The president called finalalising of the nominees list a vital step in reaching the stage of holding elections and assured the electoral bodies members would be appointed in a transparent manner.
