First group of senior HIA members arrives
An official in eastern Nangarhar province, who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News the HIA members were repatriated through Torkham border this morning. He said Eng. Salam, military assistant of HIA leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, was in the group.
A security delegation headed by Nangarhar deputy police chief welcomed the HIA group at Torkham border and ensured their security, the source added.
The group arrives amid ongoing efforts to acomodate Hekmatyar in Nangarhar. In this regard, president’s advisor on political affairs, Mohammad Akram Khpalwak, had talked to local officials during a visit to Nangarhar.
A complex of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs is dedicated to house Hekmatmar and his close aides and painting, repairing and cleaning works of the building have been underway.
Hekmatyar is expected to reappear in public from hiding for decades after his name is removed from a United Nations (UN) blacklist
President Ashraf Ghani formally resquested the removal of Hekmatyar name from the list during a meeting with a UNSC delegation last month.
