MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Three outstanding sportspeople from eastern Laghman province were awarded appreciation certificates at a well-attended ceremony in Mehtarlam, the provincial capital, on Friday.
Governor Abdul Jabbar Naeemi gave away the certificates free-fight champion Atal Ahmad Hotak, Afghanistan Cricket Board spokesman and journalist Farid Hotak and national team’s fast bowler Amir Hamza Hotak.
Naeemi hailed all sportspeople as ambassadors of peace, who had brought about unity among all their compatriots. By virtue of their brilliant performances, they brought smiles and a sense of jubilation to people’s lips, he said.
The governor said Afghan players had successfully proven their excellence internationally despite a persistent lack of resources and facilities. He also commended sportsmen’s effective role in keeping youth away from drug addiction.
He promised continued efforts to promote sports through the implementation of basic facilities. With the execution of such schemes, he hoped, problems of the sportspeople would be resolved.
