38 staffers of Wolesi Jirga Secretariat dead in twin blasts
KABUL (Pajhwok): Thirty-six employees of the Wolesi Jirga (WJ) Secretariat were killed in Tuesday’s twin bombing in front of the parliament building in Kabul, Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahim said on Wednesday.
Most of the wounded were also Wolesi Jirga staffers, Ibrahimi said in his remarks at the beginning of lower house’s session on Wednesday.
A total of 38 people were killed and 82 others wounded in yesterday’s bombings, said Wahidullah Mayar, public relations officer at the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH).
He feared the death toll might go up as some bodies could not be transferred to hospital so far.
The subsequent car bombing hit security personnel, who had gathered at the scene. He claimed 72 people were killed or wounded in the blasts. All those injured were security personnel.
The explosives-laden Corolla car was went off when officers were leaving the parliament building in the afternoon rush hour.
The second suicide attack came 20 minutes later, targeting a minibus that carried National Assembly staff. Khanyar said a policeman was among the 21 people killed. Another 13 policemen were wounded in the twin explosions.
