KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Dozens of Taliban and police personnel have suffered casualties during a fierce clash in the Maiwand district of southern Kandahar province..
Samim Khpalwak, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News on Friday that a large number of insurgents stormed several police posts in the district on Thursday night.
In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, 27 militants were killed and 17 others wounded. Khpalwak said five policemen also lost their lives while 11 others sustained injuries.
But a well-place security source put the police toll at 16 dead and nine wounded. He said the provincial police chief rushed to Maiwand after late on Friday.
