8 insurgents join peace process in Sar-i-Pul
SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): Eight Taliban militants on Sunday laid down their weapons and joined the peace process in northern Sar-i-Pul province, an official said.
Deputy provincial police chief Col. Inaytullah Habibi told Pajhwok Afghan News one Taliban member namely Taj Mohammad on Sunday surrendered to police in the Sayyad district.
Seven other militants, led by Qari Ahmadi, Taliban’s shadow district chief for the Kohistanat district, also joined the reconciliation process on Sunday in the provincial capital, Sar-i-Pul city.
Col. Habibi said a rebel who was injured during a clash with security forces two days ago was captured on Saturday night.
