KABUL (Pajhwok): A presidential spokesman on Wednesday said the Ministry of Interior (MoI) was duty-bound to act on the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) orders about the arrest of nine security guards of first Vice-President Abdul Rashid Dostum.
The AGO recently issued arrest warrants for nine Dostum’s guards in connection with kidnapping and sexual assaulting Ahmad Eshchi, a tribal elder in northern Jawzjan province.
Mohammad Haroon Chakhansori, the presidential spokesman, told a news conference here that The MoI was s responsible to take action and arrest the VP guards. “If this not happened, the AGO has full authority to declare its next decision.”
The AGO was fully independent and the government didn’t interfere in its work, he said, adding the AGO was working on the case with transparency.
However, the 1st Vice President’s office rejected the allegations by Eshchi, a former Jawzjan governor and ex-Junbish-i-Milli member.
The elder was allegedly kidnapped and held captive for several days by Dostum’s guards. The elder had accused Dostum of ordering his guards to sexually attack him.
His sons had claimed Gen. Dostum had a verbal clash with their father. Later on, Dostum’s bodyguards allegedly kidnapped and sexually abused him.
