JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Ten people have been arrested by the Special Security Forces for their alleged links with Taliban militants in Khugyani district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Monday.
The Nangarhar governor’s spokesperson, Attaullah Khugyani, told Pajhwok Afghan News the suspects were arrested during a midnight raid on the house of a Taliban commander in Hashim Khelo locality.
One militant was killed and 10 suspects were arrested and their weapons seized by the special forces, he said.
Police spokesman Col. Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal said the operation was carried out by the specials force 2nd unit in Khugyani district.
A local resident, who wished go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News the slain person was civilian and three local residents were detained in the nighttime operation.
A member of the provincial council member, Ajmal Omar, said the operation targeted the Taliban’s shadow district chief for the Khugyani district, Shakoor, but a civilian named Sayed Aarif was killed.
The Taliban confirmed the operation but said the slain person was civilian and the special forces had detained four villagers and six religious preachers.
Elsewhere, a civilian was killed by unknown gunmen in Tarma locality of Khugyani district. Attaullah Khugyani confirmed the incident which he said was being investigated by police.
