KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Tuesday interviewed eight candidates for the post of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) secretary at the Presidential Palace.
Second vice-president Mohammad Sarwar Danish and Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah were present at the interviews, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.
Those interviewed for the slot included Khwaja Mohammad Asmai, Ahmadullah Archiwal, Imam Mohammad Worimach, Abdul Rahim Daud Rahimi, Popal Habibi, Abdul Aziz Samim, Ahmad Shah Zamanzai and Syed Jamaluddin Sahibzada.
They were interviewed one by one, the statement said, adding that the two electoral bodies — the Independent Election Commission (IEC) and the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission — were required under the election law’s article 22 to introduce eligible candidates for the secretary position to the Presidential Palace for approval.
After a multifaceted evaluation, the president will pick a qualified person among those interviewed for the post of the IEC secretary.
