KABUL and Ireland played at a neutral venue in the Indian capital New Delhi

Electing to bat first, Afghanistan posted a mammoth total of 338 runs in the stipulated 50 overs — the highest-ever ODI score made by the home side.

In 2014, Afghanistan had scored 302 runs against the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In Saturday’s duel, the Afghans romped home by 34 runs.

Also Captain Mohammad Asghar Stanikzai, who has played 69 ODIs, made his first century.

The third record was set by Rashid Khan, who bagged six wickets, helping his side victory. Khan became the first Afghan bowler to achieve the distinction.

Earlier, Rahmat Shah and Hameed Hasan held the record of five wickets in an ODI.

An international record was also created during yesterday’s match – six-wicket hauls both for Afghan and Irish bowler. Afghan leg-spinner Rashid Khan took six wickets while all rounder Paul Sterling achieved the same feat for Ireland.

Sterling became the first player to take six wickets and score 95 runs as well. Earlier, English player Paul Collinwood had grabbed six wickets besides hitting a century in an ODI encounter.
