Border tiff: Kabul warns of resort to dangerous options

Border tiff: Kabul warns of resort to dangerous options

Mar 20, 2017 - 11:25

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Afghanistaninfo-icon has accused Pakistaninfo-icon of dishonouring the pledge it held out at last week’s trilateral meeting in London, warning Kabul would mull over other options that would be dangerous for Islamabad.

Tawab Ghorzang, spokesman for the National Security Council (NSC), told reporters on Sunday that Pakistan, during the London talks, had promised to open all crossing points on the Durand Lineinfo-icon.

He said Afghanistan believed the crossing points would be reopened for trade and public transport soon in line with the neighbouring country’s promise. However, he regretted, the commitment was not honoured.

Pakistan’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Sartaj Aziz, Afghan National Security Advisor Hanif Atmar, Ambassador Hazrat Omar Zakhelwal, and the British NSA attended the talks on thawing Kabul-Islamabad relations.

The month-long closure of the Durand Line, which has inconvenienced travelers and caused traders huge financial losses, figured prominently at the meeting.
