SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Eight Daesh rebels were killed, including two notorious commanders, during a night time operation by security forces in northern Jawzjan province, officials said on Monday.

Mohammad Reza Ghafori, the governor’s spokesman, police and local police personnel stormed a Daesh hideout in Archatow village of Darzab district late on Sunday night.

The ensuing clash lasted two hours, leaving eight rebels dead and four others arrested, he said.

He said the bodies of the slain insurgents remained on the battlefield and only one militant was able to flee and their weapons and other ammunition were captured by security personnel. Security forces suffered no causalities in the raid.

Darzab district chief Rahmatullah Hashar identified the two slain Daesh commanders as Serka and Ismail.

A resident of the area said commander Serka was a ruthless Daesh commander who always used a knife in killing civilians.

He expressed happiness over the killing of the commanders. He said their killing would not end the conflict but would help alleviate the pain of families whose members had been killed by the two men.

About 20 days ago, Daesh militants attacked and laid siege to Sardara and Archatow villages of Darzab district, killing killed three local police and a resident of Sardara village. The rebels set on fire the civilian’s body as he was accused of cooperation with police.
