AIBAK (Pjhwok): Flash flood washed away dozens of houses and crops on thousands of acres of land in the Khuram wa Sarbagh district of northern Samangan province, an official said on Tuesday.

The overnight flooding caused no human losses, but damaged crops on land measuring 6000 acres and destroyed 44 residential houses last night, said Rajab Ali Yousufi, the Afghanistan Natural Disaster Management Authority head for Samangan.

He said more than 6400 meters portion of an irrigation canal, 16 drinking water wells and two mosques were damaged in the flood that also swept away livestock.

He said his department was distributing food to the affected families and some charities had promised also food and clothing to the victims.

The affected families said the flood destroyed their houses and killed livestock. They asked the government to provide them shelter on an emergency basis.
