KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): The Kunduz-Takhar highway was reopened for traffic in northern Kunduz province on Tuesday after remaining closed for six days by militants, an official said.

Col. Rahim Kohdanami, public order police chief in Kunduz, said the operation to clear the vital highway was launched on Tuesday morning.

He said security forces had been able to clear the highway of rebels and restore the flow of traffic.

Earlier, Amruddin Wali, head of the provincial council, accused security officials of unwilling to launch an offensive against insurgents to retake lost areas and clear the highway of the rebels.

“When fighting intensifies, security forces launch offensive, but when the fighting slows down, no action is taken against the rebels,” the public representative said.
