Landmine factory destroyed in Helmand

Landmine factory destroyed in Helmand

Jul 19, 2011 - 20:43

LASHKARGAH (PANinfo-icon): An explosives factory was destroyed in the Nawa district of southern Helmand province on Tuesday, a senior intelligence official said.

Four people, including the factory chief, were arrested during an operation in the Sra Qala area, the National Directorate of Security head for Helmand told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Col. Nazar Ali Wahidi said the raid was jointly conducted by intelligence and police officials. The detainees, two of them wounded in firing by security forces, are under investigation.

He said the men, led by the Talibaninfo-icon-designated Nawa district chief Mullahinfo-icon Abdul Ali, had been trained in making landmines in Pakistaninfo-icon's southwestern city of Quetta.

Eight landmines, three motorbikes and 30 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, banned fertiliser used to make roadside bombs, were seized, the intelligence official said.
