ASADABAD (PAN): The Ministry of Defence provided food assistance for families displaced by artillery shelling from Pakistani forces in eastern Kunar province, officials said on Sunday.
Eighty tonnes of food items were distributed to 400 families in the border districts of Shegal and Sarkano, the 201st Selab Military Corps spokesman said.
Col. Mohammad Noman Hatif told Pajhwok Afghan News that each family received 50 kilograms of wheat, 50 kg of pulses, 10 kg of cooking oil, 10 kg of sugar, 10 kg of beans, 10 kg of pea and one kg of tea leaves.
In the second phase, 300 displaced families Asmar and Dangam districts will receive food aid.
“We are grateful for the aid, but urge the ministry to prevent cross-border shelling,” said Mursalin, one of the affected people. He also asked the government to rebuild their houses.
