KABUL on Tuesday announced releasing a Kyrgyz citizen they had seized along with nine other foreigners in central Logar province on April 21.

The Taliban kidnapped 11 foreigners, including Turkish engineers who have already been freed, after their helicopter made an emergency landing in the Mangal Pass area of Azra district.

Owned by the Khorasan Cargo Airlines, which flies Russian Mi-8 and Mi-17 choppers as well as fixed-wing aircraft, was returning from southeastern Khost province to Kabul.

Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban, said in a statement the captive from Kyrgyzstan had been set free as a goodwill gesture and in line with the movement leader’s decision.

However, he said nothing about the fate of an Afghan and a Russian who were also taken hostage by the militants.
