ISLAMABAD (PAN‘s port city of Karachi on Wednesday, official said.
The blast happened on Burns Road targetted a convoy of Sindh High Court judge Justice Maqbool Baqar, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nasir Aftab told reporters at the scene.
Seven policemen, a paramilitary soldier and the judge’s driver were among the fatalities, Aftab said, adding Justice Baqar was evacuated to a private hospital in critical condition.
Lawyers, meanwhile, announced a boycott of court proceedings across the province against the bombing, which was claimed by the proscribed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan.
Baqar, having served as a special anti-terrorism court judge, had received threats from insurgents. He was known for handing swift verdicts in cases in terrorists.
Police said the explosive device, tied to a motorbike that was parked near a mosque, exploded as soon as the convoy passed by. Three police mobile vans and two motorcycles were damaged as a result of the heavy explosion.
