KABUL): Sticking to its stance, Russia on Tuesday lent its weight to the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned reconciliation process

Russia’s Special Envoy Zamir Kabulov voiced Moscow’s support for the peace drive at a meeting with President Hamid Karzai in Kabul

A statement from the Presidential Palace said the two sides discussed the recent opening of the Taliban‘s office in Qatar and other regional issues.

In reaction to the way the Taliban opened their office in Doha last month, Karzai slammed the hoisting of the movement’s office flag and the use of the nomenclature of “the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.”

He also announced suspending talks with United States on the Bilateral Security Agreement, but now both nations have hinted at the resumption of the negotiations.
