NATO forces in Khost shell Pakistani territory

KHOST CITY/ASADABAD, Sept 27 (Pajhwok Afghan News): NATO forces based in the southeastern Khost province said on Thursday they had shelled Pakistani territory with permission from the Pakistan Army.

A source in the NATO Press Office in the southeastern zone confided to Pajhwok Afghan News the troops fired missiles into a Pakistani area near border from where their base was targetted with rockets last night.

The attack on the NATO base caused no casualties, the source claimed, adding the forces struck the border area to repulse the assault. The official said it was unclear if the retaliatory shelling led to any casualties across the frontier.

In the eastern Kunar province, eight civilians were injured in a clash between the US-led Coalition and Taliban militants in Mattani locality of Manogi district.

NATO spokesman in eastern zone Stermberg informed this news agency the firefight erupted after the rebels attacked a Coalition convoy in the area. During a patrol of the area after the clash, the troops found two injured civilians.

The spokesman, who stopped short of saying as to who wounded the ordinary residents, added the wounded were rushed to a nearby Coalition medical facility.
