Four rebels shot dead in Sangin clash: District chief

LASHKARGAH, Sept 28 (Pajhwok Afghan News): Four Taliban insurgents were killed and eight others caught alive in Sangin district of the embattled southern province of Helmand, a senior official claimed on Friday.

The rebels were shot dead in a 30-minute clash, triggered by an ambush on a police convoy in Joshali area at 9.00am, Sangin district chief Izzatullah told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The dead bodies of the militants were still lying at the scene of the battle, the district chief said, adding the Taliban succeeded in taking away the injured fighters. He would no put a figure on the injured rebels.

Unaware of the gun-battle, Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi said the movements men had blown up a police vehicle in the same area. At least three policemen were killed in the landmine explosion, he added.
