AUNF for recognition of Taliban as a party

Zubair Babakarkhil - Apr 30, 2008 - 19:07

KABUL (PAN): The Afghanistan United National Front (AUNF) asked for change in the policy and recognition of Taliban as a party.

Dr. Muhiuddin Mehdi, spokesman of the party told a press conference on Wednesday: "an international conference should be held and Taliban should be invited as a military or political party"

To a question if Taliban would participate in such conference Mehdi said with the passage of time parties changed and Taliban may have changed their concept and would be happy to attend such negotiations.

He said to improve Afghans life, security was imminent.

Jafar Kohistani, the head of the party told the press conference the attack on the military parade was due to recklessness of security forces and irresponsible speeches of President Karzai.

He said Karzai told foreign forces a day before the ceremony to stop arresting Taliban.

But Kohistani did not give satisfactory reasons for his claims

He said the system of the country should also be changed.

He added: "we asked the parliament to work on the change of the system before it is too late and make way for a Loya Jirga and international conference"

The Afghanistan United National Front (AUNF) consists of 60 civil society organizations and parties are considered government opposition.

According to the charter of AUNF Afghanistan would need parliamentary system rather than the presidential.

The Afghanistan United National Front (AUNF) also wants to solve the problems of the country with regional support and want the foreign forces to be legalized
