Kuchi girl commits self-immolation

QALAT (PAN): A young Kuchi female chose to self-immolate herself by burning and committed suicide after she was tantalized and tortured by her family members for her alleged love affairs.

Col. Ghulam Jilani, security chief of Zabul police headquarters told Pajhwok Afghan News the victim Bakht Bibi who he believed was in her twenties was living in Mizani Adda area of Qalat capital of the province.

Bibi poured petrol on her body and torched herself; he explained adding they had arrested brother of the victim for his alleged thrashing which resulted into the death of the young girl. Brother of the girl was being interrogated, he assured.

Muhammad Rasul a doctor in Zabul civil hospital said the girl was burned 70 percent. They were unable in her treatment therefore they referred her to southern Kandahar but the girl succumbed to her burn injuries before reaching the destined hospital.

Rahima head of the women affairs department in Zabul province said Bakht Bibi was in love with someone and her family members found out the pictures of the boy with her and tortured her.

She poured petrol on herself and give an end to her life after the beat up, she concluded.

Only a day back, a 60-year-old lady committed suicide in Uruzgan province after being subjected to violence.
