Jozjan: Top district officials killed in Taliban ambush

JOZJAN (PAN): Taliban militants ambushed a convoy of senior Kustapa district officials in the northern Jozjan province, killing the district chief, criminal branch chief, security chief and intelligence chief along with six police men, officials said.

 

Provincial police chief Brig Gen Khalil Aminzada told Pajhwok Afghan News that the incident happened in Dasth-e-Lailai's Qarzai Kotal area at about 10am.

He said the district chief of Kustapa Sirajuddin Rasam, security chief Murad Naqal, criminal branch chief Abdussatar and intelligence chief Mehmood Khan with seven police officials were killed in the Taliban ambush.

Aminzada said after the attack four suspected persons were arrested during a search operation in the area. He claimed some documents were recovered from the possession of the arrested persons.

Spokesman for the provincial governor Mehboob Zari also confirmed the incident.

Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack.

In a statement issued here, a Taliban spokesman said they seized two vehicles after the attack.
