Commander among four Taliban killed in air strike

Khan Wali Salarzai - Nov 27, 2009 - 17:07

ASADABAD (PAN): A commander was among four Taliban militants killed in an overnight NATO air strike in southeastern Kunar province, police said on Friday.

The air strike was conducted in the Chapa Dara area of Manogi district last night, deputy police chief Brig Gen Abdussabor told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He identified the slain commander as Haji Dawran. Three others militants were also perished in the bombardment, the police officer said.

However, a relative of the commander, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told this reporter that Dawran had survived the air raid.

He added the wife, two children and two neighbors, husband and wife, of the militant leader were killed in the overnight assault.

An official at the military base of the foreign forces in Asadabad, who wished anonymity, confirmed the killing of the commander along with his three accomplices.

The Taliban have not yet commented on the strike.
