However, Fort Hood army website announced that the 49 years old US Brig. Gen. Terence J. Hildner–who had commanded the 13th Expeditionary Sustainment Command at Fort Hood since August 2010 and went to Afghanistan in December 2011–died on Friday in Afghanistan of apparent natural causes.
“We are truly saddened by the loss of Brigadier General Hildner,” the website said while quoting, Lt. Gen. Don Campbell Jr., III Corps and Fort Hood commanding general.
Pentagon spokeswoman Tara Rigler also confirmed that Hildner was the highest-ranking officer to die in Afghanistan.
With the latest fatality, the death toll for foreign forces in Afghanistan this year has increased to 35, including 27 Americans. Last year, 566 international soldiers were killed in the country.
