KABUL): President Hamid Karzai on Sunday strongly condemned a suicide attack on former Pakistani interior minister and seasoned politician Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao.
A two-time former chief minister, Sherpao survived the attack involving a suicide bomber, who blew himself up near his motorcade in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday.
Karzai telephoned the Pakistan People’s Party (S) leader and expressed pleasure over the survival of the ex-minister and his son Sikandar Hayat Sherpao, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.
A policeman and a girl were killed in the assault that took place in Charsadda district, as Sherpao left the venue of a public meeting in the Batagram village. Sherpao, his son and a provincial assembly member were in the same car.
In their telephonic conservation, Karzai wished Sherpao a long life and success in his political career. The Afghan leader also expressed condolences to the families of those killed and wished the wounded speedy recovery.
