Lahore police chief Aslam Tarin told journalists after the shooting in Rasul Park area, the heavily armed gunmen attacked a building where policemen were staying. The assailants managed to flee the area, he said.

The victims, serving at the prison department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, were in Lahore for training. An eyewitness, Saleem-ur-Rahman, saw 13 policemen covered in blood after the shooting and 10 of them were dead.

Meanwhile, the Tehreek-i-Taliban (TTP) claimed the responsibility for the attack in Ichhra area. The group’s spokesman Ahsanullah Ahsan said the shooting was in revenge for the police torture of detained fighters and vowed more violence in the region.
