KABUL activists and Kabul University students on Tuesday staged a protest in Kabul, calling for punishing the killers of a young girl in central Bamyan province and the dismissal of the provincial attorney.
Shakila, 16, was found dead inside the house of Syed Wahidi Behishti, a provincial council member, and brother of Wolesi Jirga Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) office and Parliament.
Chanting “Shame on Bamyan attorney, Shakila did not commit suicide”, the protestors asked justice departments to prosecute her killers and punish them.
Mohammad Jawad, a Kabul University student, told Pajhwok Afghan News the rally was aimed at asking for Shakila’s killers to be arrested and brought to justice.
He claimed the Bamyan attorney had prepared fake documents and submitted them to the court to mislead it in the case. Another protestor Husain Ali said the attorney wanted to save the killer, a warlord.
Last week, the AHRC office in Bamyan said so far no effective measures have been taken by the attorney to resolve the case. But Attorney Syed Ahmad Yar said his office had taken legal action.
The protestors issued a resolution, asking relevant departments investigating the murder case to be transparent in their probe to ensure the victim’s family was done justice.
