KABUL militants in eastern Nuristan province, a senior official said on Monday.
The arson attack took place late on Sunday night in a remote part of the town, a Taliban stronghold, Governor Tamim Nuristani told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Before the latest incident, homes of others government officials, including the provincial council head, had also been burnt by the insurgents, he recalled.
The attack came when the district chief was on an official visit to neighbouring Nangarhar province, the governor added. The assailants tortured the district chief’s family before torching his home.
Local rebel leader Mullah-based groups, was involved in the incident, the governor claimed.
