KABUL (PAN): Lower house members on Saturday accepted the explanations offered by ministers of information and mines about under-spending development funds in 2011.
Information and Culture Minister Syed Makhdoom Rahin and Mines Minister Wahidullah Shahrani testified before the house about their failure to use more than half of their budgetary allocations.
Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi ruled parliamentarians were satisfied with the arguments advanced by the two ministers, who could continue in their portfolios.
Of the 215 legislators present in today’s session, 133 supported while 73 opposed the justifications offered by Shahrani. Four ballots were found invalid and as many blank.
On the other hand, 132 lawmakers accepted and 74 rejected the explanations given by Dr. Rahin. Five votes were found blank and three invalid.
Earlier in the week, Education Minister Ghulam Farooq Wardak and Counternarcotics Minister Zarar Ahmad Muqbil also satisfied Wolesi Jirga members.
Economy Minister Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal and Energy and Water Minister Ismail Khan have also been to reappear before MPs on the issue. By: Ataullah Khpulwok
